After honing expertise at Hunter College and Creighton University School of Dentistry , he blend professionalism with a personal touch. As an unwavering Knicks enthusiast, Dr. Islam brings the heart of the city to every endeavor. Beyond the dental chair, he loves to travel with friends, exploring new cultures and cuisines, all while capturing moments through the lens of film photography. A recent running convert, he has conquered half marathons and aspires to tackle the NYC Marathon in November. Florida native Dr. Angie Kim attended the University of Florida and finished her dental schooling at Nova Southeastern University. After completing her studies, Dr. Kim decided to further her training. She completed NYU’s College of Dentistry Clinical Aesthetics Program, where she expanded her knowledge and focus on veneers and crowns. Dr. Kim prides herself on providing painless dentistry and professional chairside manners for all patients.
Dr. Kim prioritizes living a balanced lifestyle and spending quality time with her family and friends. She loves living in New York City with her husband and two beautiful children, exploring and experimenting with different activities as much as they can. Additionally, she enjoys traveling, playing golf, and playing tennis for recreation.
Periodontist
Dr. Kristina Salaverry is a periodontist passionate about oral health and overall well-being. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts with Honors at Dartmouth College, Dr. Salaverry attended Columbia University for her Doctor of Dental Surgery, where she also completed a residency in periodontics and obtained a Master of Science in Periodontics during her residency at Columbia University, where her research examined the prevalence of periodontal disease in patients with advanced heart failure.
In 2013, Dr. Salaverry published a paper entitled “A Dentist’s Role in the Treatment of Halitosis” in the October edition of the dental journal Compendium and became a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. In addition to private practice, she is an instructor of Clinical Dental Medicine at Columbia within the Section of Oral and Diagnostic Sciences (Division of Periodontics).
Dr. Salaverry specializes in preventing gum disease, treating bad breath, saving teeth when possible, and tooth replacement. Dr. Salaverry is excited to be part of a team that gives someone their smile back, can evaluate periodontal risk factors, and perform surgical and non-surgical treatment for periodontal disease, including dental implant placement.
Dr. Salaverry is a violinist with the New York Repertory Orchestra and performs in several concerts throughout the year, and is a member of the New York Junior League. She enjoys watching musical theater and movies, cooking, staying active through yoga and Pilates, and participating in her Fantasy Football™ League in her leisure time.
Dr. Joseph Khafi is a new member of our team, helping both geriatric and pediatric patients with a wide variety of medical and dental concerns. Specializing in Biomimetic Dentistry, Restorative Dentistry, and Invisalign, Dr. Khafi provides a full comprehensive treatment plan that is custom made, and suited to each patients needs.
By focusing on the needs of each patient, Dr. Khafi has been able to put the DDS Degree he earned at Touro College of Dental Medicine to good use. Over the years, Dr. Khafi’s strengths at compassionate care and patient understanding has given him both joy and success in the dental field.
When he’s not at Group Health Dental, Dr. Khafi is an avid basketball player and loves spending time working out and spending time with his family.
Dr. Lewis is an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. He graduated from Xavier University of Louisiana with a bachelor’s degree in biology and pre-med and received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Howard University College of Dentistry in 2007. He continued his education with a General Practice Residency at the UCLA Harbor Medical Center and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery internships at the New York Medical College and the Jacobi Medical Center. He completed his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery training at New York Medical College. Dr. Lewis’ interest in dentistry and oral surgery started early in his life.
In 1998 and 2002, he completed internships for the National Leadership Forum on Dentistry and Medicine in Houston, Texas. His research in 2002 focused on the interactions of medicine and dentistry related to oral cancer, primary healthcare, and pathologic disorders in South Africa. This experience sparked a desire to make oral surgery accessible to all – leading to his ardent pursuit of a career in oral surgery.
Specializing in various surgical procedures, including dental implants, bone grafts, sinus lift surgery, oral pathology, tooth extractions, and pre-prosthetic surgery, Dr. Lewis is recognized for his professional expertise and commitment to advancing his dental knowledge.
Dr. Lewis is a motivational speaker and has been featured in such publications as Forbes, Maxim, Men’s Journal, US Weekly News.
